John Hastewell is Head of the NIBR Biologics Center (NBC) for the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR).
John received his undergraduate degree in natural sciences from Oxford University and his D. Phil from the Department of Biology at the University of York in Heslington, York, UK. He is a biochemist by training.
John has been with Novartis since 1989 and has experience in many areas of the pharmaceutical industry. He worked on drug absorption in the Advanced Drug Delivery Research group, Horsham, UK, before moving into drug discovery research, where he has worked on thrombosis, respiratory and immunology projects. Most recently, he was the Global Head of the Program Office for NIBR where he made critical contributions to NIBR’s research strategy and portfolio management including a critical role in the recent growth in NIBR's biologics portfolio.
